Additional Info

Habitat: Floodplain forests, alluvial swamps, moist to wet fields and meadows, clearings, mesic upland forests, and other open or shaded disturbed habitats. Frequent throughout Virginia except in the outer Coastal Plain, where rare.

Wildlife Value: This plant supports larvae of certain satyrine butterflies (Nymphalidae-Satyrinae). Birds and small mammals consume the achenes (small dry one-seeded fruit) and use the plants for cover
