When I first started learning about Virginia’s native plants, I found myself jumping between dozens of websites just to piece together basic information, such as what grows where, which wildlife each plant supports, and where to actually buy them. To make things easier, I began collecting all that information in one place to guide my own yard restoration project.
I realized others might be looking for a simple way to discover native plants that belong here in Virginia and help local ecosystems thrive. And as a retired web manager, I wanted to keep up my web development skills I. This website is the result: a growing resource that brings together native plant details, their habitat needs, wildlife connections, and nursery sources, along with helpful comparisons to non-native species and suggestions for native replacements.
My hope is that it helps you, too, whether you’re rewilding your backyard, starting a garden for pollinators, or simply curious about the plants that make Virginia unique. Whether you find this site helpful, notice an error, or would like to help maintain and update plant information, I’d love to hear from you.
Also, Keep checking back! I'm continuing to add species and functionality on a regular basis!
