Habitat: Dry woodlands, clearings, fields, and roadsides; usually on mafic or moderately to strongly calcareous substrates. Restricted to and infrequent in the northern Virginia Piedmont and mountains (Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Loudoun, Clarke, and Frederick counties).

Wildlife Value: Food plant for bees, wasps, butterflies, skippers, and moths.
