Additional Info

Habitat: Fields, roadsides, clearings, and other open, disturbed habitats. Frequent in the Virginia's northern mountains and Piedmont; infrequent elsewhere in these provinces; rare in the Coastal Plain. 

Note: Digital Atlas of Virginia has its Native Status listed as "Uncertain". Despite the specific epithet, this plant is not foxglove (Digitalis spp.) and lacks the toxicity associated with foxglove.

Wildlife Value: This plant attracts birds, hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Members of the genus Penstemon support specialized bees
